May 23, 2011

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love spring.  But, I also HATE the tornadoes and the frequent severe and destructive storms that come along with spring here in the heartland. The tornado that devastated Joplin, Missouri - our neighbors 110 miles to the east of Tulsa - has effected all of us. We carry in our hearts that draining feeling of helplessness. We want to offer aid and hope, but how? We can pray our most fervent and powerful prayers, and we can donate to those who are prepared and able to go to Joplin to provide shelter, food, clothes, comfort, support, and anything else that is needed, such as the American Red Cross.
And for all of us animal lovers, we don't want to forget the fine people dedicated to helping the frightened, injured and displaced pets, such as the The Joplin Humane Society.

My heart aches for all the people who are suffering in the aftermath.

  1. I've been watching the news and my heart goes out to the people who have gone though this terrible disaster. Having worked in a hospital my entire pharmacy career and been in charge of a department, I cannot imagine what the staff at the devastated hospital are dealing with. You always think you are prepared for disaster, but you never know until it happens. Especially when your institution is where people go first for help. It sounds like the community hospitals around the area are taking care of the existing patients and all the new ones. I'm praying for more survivors. Sounds like more storms are on the way so stay safe!
